Adding Slippery elm worked wonders!!

Post by Kohlesmomma » 17 Feb 2020, 17:29

I wanted to come on here and thank everyone that helped me when I first joined this forum. Man was I struggling!!, and crying, and cussing, and just a mess watching my Kohle be so sick. But mainly with the help of this forum, and little by little, I believe my Kohle is well on the way to being stable.
I wanted to report the turning point seemed to happen for Kohle after adding Slippery elm powder to his meals, as well as letting his food incubate over 30 min. Those 2 changes have produced MAJOR improvement in my dogs stools. He is clearly gaining more and the coat is really soft and shiny. Thank the Lord for this forum. I don't think Kohle would has done so well if I didn't have the great help from many of you!! I had a neighbor stop me the other day and ask me what I have been doing because Kohle just looks so healthy...little did she know the hell he went thru. Anyway thank God for you guy's. I wish you all healthy and happy dogs and lives.

That is some good news, Kellie!---Pam
Tucker was a shepherd mix--- TLI 1.3, Folate 9.7, Cobalamin 666, Lipase 38. Diane's Enzymes 4 t/day, B12 1 capsule/day, and Tylan 1/16 teaspoon/day. Taste of the Wild High Prairie, 4 c/day. 60 to 85 pounds! Tucker succumbed to hemangiosarcoma Nov. 2023. I will always, always miss my sweet big boy.

Now there's Nina. 5 year old GSD. TLI 1.0 B12 323. We are still tweaking her routine, and getting lots of help from the forum. She is klutzy and goofy, and we love her dearly, too.

So glad the Slippery Elm worked!! It seems to work for most of our EPI dogs - my boy depends on it :). We've all been there - lost, frustrated, devastated and then found this amazing group and the guidance we were lacking to help our dogs thrive!! Keep up the good work and keep us posted.

Hello! I am a newbie to the forum and not so good with technology. Hopefully this will work. I have an 8 mo old Aussie diagnosed with SID/SIBO. We just finished a six week course of Tylosin which worked like a charm in normalizing poops after many many months of issues. Within four days of ending the course, diarrhea returned. I am currently starting slippery elm to see if it helps but have questions. Hoping for some help ...
Pup weighs a little more than 36 pounds but I started with low dose of 1/8 tsp. How quickly should I go ahead and increase to recommended dose of 1/2 tsp for his size?
Can slippery elm be taken at same time as a probiotic? He is currently on daily dose of FortiFlora.
Can slippery elm be taken with Tylosin? I'm not sure but he might need another round if the diarrhea continues.
Is slippery elm ok to use with flea/tick and heartworm medications?
How long should I continue the slippery elm?
I want to help my boy and it's really hard to know all the right things to do! So glad to have found this site. Thank you!!!
