I'm a pretty sappy, nostalgic kind of person, so from time to time I like to come back to the forum and say hello. I hope everyone is doing well.
I had a close call this morning. A little girl named Cinnamon, pictured on the shelter's website, called to me, and I decided to check her out. (We only have four dogs now, and four is such a weird number )...She is terrified, being in that cold kennel, so we may end up fostering her over Christmas break, to see how she likes it here, BUT!!!! I came home and told my husband that we had just dodged a bullet!---
Before going to the shelter, I had to drop off donations at Hospice Attic, and then I shopped a little. Turns out this was a very good move, because---
If I had gone to the shelter first thing, I would have seen the 4-month-old mostly black GSD girl who had been surrendered just this morning, before the couple who adopted her. They brought their dog to meet her, and I hung out for awhile (hoping the meeting would be a disaster), but then I came to my senses & left. WHEW! But guys, she was C U T E !!!
I miss my Tuckaboo, and apparently I need to get used to that, but a distraction sure would be nice, about now. Take Care!---Pam

Re: My Boy Tucker
Tucker was a shepherd mix--- TLI 1.3, Folate 9.7, Cobalamin 666, Lipase 38. Diane's Enzymes 4 t/day, B12 1 capsule/day, and Tylan 1/16 teaspoon/day. Taste of the Wild High Prairie, 4 c/day. 60 to 85 pounds! Tucker succumbed to hemangiosarcoma Nov. 2023. I will always, always miss my sweet big boy.
Now there's Nina. 5 year old GSD. TLI 1.0 B12 323. We are still tweaking her routine, and getting lots of help from the forum. She is klutzy and goofy, and we love her dearly, too.

Re: My Boy Tucker
Today is not the actual date we said good-bye last year---that will be the 12th--but it's Sunday morning, and the feels are the same.
For two nights, I had slept on the couch with him, which was good for us both. He had edema & couldn't lie down on his own, so I had to tip him over to get him comfortable.
All day yesterday, I remembered trying to decide how and what to do. Sent videos to my vet, asking for help. She was on vacation, but she helped me find someone to help Tucker stop being miserable. Stop the confused, stoic suffering.
I'm not much of a crier, but I feel those tears coming on. I miss him so much. He was the best.
Please don't feel sorry for me; that's not why I am posting. But if you feel like it, please send a virtual leaf blower & tennis ball to my Tucker in dog heaven, and tell him he's a good boy.
What would I do without you all?--Pam & Tucker

Re: My Boy Tucker
It seems you lost Tucker at close to the same time I had to say goodbye to Chance. I still get "days".
He won't need a leaf blower or ball. Chance would keep him very busy! He soooo loved every dog he met. And most liked him. Even a couple of dogs that couldn't be around other dogs without starting something, were great with him.
Hard to believe it's a year. Feels like yesterday. Yet also Feels like so long ago.

Chance was my 4 legged soul mate. My mobility assist service dog. Pure yellow Lab, 75 lbs. After struggling with weight all his life, finally dx with EPI. cTLI < 1, folate and B12 very low. Fed Raw. Maintained with Creon, Garden of Life probiotic and intermittent calcium bentonite clay. (Tylosin was a big nightmare for him)!
Rylee is Chance's successor; also pure Yellow/Fox red Lab. Started with symptoms at 8 weeks. At 6 months of age, also prescribed Creon due to suspected EPI (due to passing large amounts of undigested food). Currently suspected of blockages in pancreatic ducts. She is maintained VERY nicely on Creon and probiotics. Also raw fed.

Re: My Boy Tucker
Andrea---I didn't realize you lost Chance so close to my Tucker. I know how you must be feeling, and I'm so sorry.
Don would blow the leaves in the backyard & at the same time throw the ball, letting it blow all over the place. At the sight of the blower, Tucker would go nuts. I think you're right, though. Tuck & Chance are running and running through all the fields up there, waiting to greet us someday.
Thanks for the kind words, and I hope you make it through this first anniversary, the hardest one.---Pam

Re: My Boy Tucker
My heart breaks for both of you and your beloveds.
Dot is our day blind 4 1/3 year old half Idaho Shag half Australian Cattle Dog. She was diagnosed with EPI in late January 2024. After much help and guidance from Olesia and EPI4Dogs things continue to improve. We are forever grateful!

This weekend we managed to keep him comfortable with aspirin, valium, water, and Hershey's kisses. He had a lot of those this morning. He loved them. Thanks for all the love & prayers you sent our way. We got to keep him for four months, which is on the high side of survival for this heartless disease.
Love to All---Pam & Tucker
So sorry to hear this Pam

Re: My Boy Tucker
Thanks, SallyAnne. We waited about five months before deciding to adopt Nina, a 5 year old GSD, who also has EPI.
Tuck played a role in us finding her, and we see him in her all the time.
Tucker, though, he was a once in a lifetime friend. --P
