Problem with Tylosin?

Post by Chance » 15 Nov 2022, 12:44

Ok. I know I might get shot for posting this, but I need to know.

A few days ago it was brought to my attention that I was giving half the recommendation of Tylosin. It was recommended here that I double it. That night I gave 2 capsules (400mg each). 32.5kg yellow Lab. Next morning he was in a big hurry to get outside! Poop was orange, soft formed. (I hoped it was from the last tweak of Creon dose 2 days earlier, and extra Tylosin will prevent a problem). Continuing at 800mg twice daily.

The next morning he got up at 5 am. We had to run out! He went very soft, orange poop in a couple of places. We went back to bed. 6am...same thing. We had to run!

Of course I am thinking another setback yet again! Until it dawned on me yesterday afternoon, maybe it's the Tylosin!

He had no Tylosin last night or this morning. Problem has resolved! He's bright, happy and crazy. If it had been SIBO, stopping Tylosin should have made it worse! Not better.

I will probably start it again, to help prevent problems. But I will not give him 800mg again!

We aren't in the habit of shooting anyone nor chastising anyone for telling the truth of what is going on with their pups! Lol
What usually works as protocol doesn't always work on every animal.
Was your pup stabilized on the Creon before you upped the Tylan?

The Creon dose was really just carved in stone at the time I increased Tylosin.

He'd had a couple of days with slightly too low a dose enzymes. He's had less trigger setbacks! I dosed him with a probiotic paste once I realized the Creon dose was wrong. Increased Creon and found it perfect. I upped the Tylosin the same day that I knew I had Creon dialed in.

I did have minor issues for a couple of days after starting Tylosin low dose. He had soft, orange poops.

After a few days it resolved itself. But it wasn't like this time where he was getting up at night, barely making it on time. This time was much worse

So am I hearing you say things were good after a couple days on the Creon and the low dose of Tylan? Then things went south on the double dose of Tylan?
Since you upped the Tylan dose and things went bad you are sure nothing else changed also in there? If not maybe go back to where things were going good. Or maybe a tweener dose? The B12 is up?

Yes, he did have a couple of good days after finding the Creon dose. You understood correctly! The 2 days before (Creon too low) wasn't bad either. The poop was solid, but contained tiny bits of lung meat. Lunch from the day before). I upped the dose of Creon, and saw a lot less food the next day. So I carved that dose in stone.

I have no way of tweaking Creon dose any further. It's not sold in increments small enough, so my trying would lead to inaccuracies. We can only get Creon 10 and Creon 25. I have played with both of those

We know that 37.5 (about 1.5 caps Creon 25). is way too low. Creon 40 (1.5 caps of Creon 10, plus 1 cap of Creon 25) is also too low. The only dose that could be tried next is 45 (2 Creon 10, plus 1 Creon 25). That was best. Because Creon 10 caps are so tiny, I really couldn't attempt to make 42.5, nor could I attempt 47.5. (50 is too much).

B12 injection was last week. So about 5 days before the Tylosin mishap. Wonderlabs capsules did absolutely nothing, and his levels plummeted very badly. So I am limited to injections. Those do work. I usually inject once every 2 weeks.
