What food do you feed your pet with epi? Newly diagnosed 2-year-old german shepherd dog. I have been feeding her Canidae 4percent fiber. It is not grain-free. I heard grain-free is better. What would you recommend?

R.I.P. Nikki 11/21/2009 - 05/23/2023
Nikki was diagnosed with EPI in 2010
Royal Canin Gastrointestinal Low Fat canned
Slippery Elm syrup for stomach issues
1 tsp Pan-Tenex enzymes with each meal
Weekly B12 shots, pills didn't work for her
Tylan for life

Re: recommend food
Hi Denise. Have you looked around the Epi website,? There are numerous links to information for helping your Epi pup. I see Michaela included the dog food options. That should help!

Re: recommend food
Buy small bags and small quantities of canned food and prepare for some trial and error. Assess your current situation, though. How well is your pup doing on their current food? If they're doing well, you know the old saying, if it ain't broke don't fix it. Check a store's return policy, too, and see if they have samples. Some companies, like Petcurean, used do send samples through the mail upon request, and they may still do so. You need to take into consideration anything else that might be going on, too. Montgomery has EPI, but I'm also catering to his IBD and his SIBO, along with an intestine that's in a snarl, and what he eats isn't on anyone's list of recommended foods for EPI.
Hope this helps!

Montgomery was born 20 March 2012. He eats extra lean ground chicken, lean ground pork and lean ground beef completed with Alnutrin and freeze-dried chicken liver, with hard-cooked egg. He gets two size zero capsules of Enzyme Diane's enzymes at each of his six meals, and a size four capsule of Tylan three times a day. He's a fierce little Spitfire with a roaring Merlin engine.

Hi
I just want to welcome you from the UK
Grain free always worked better for my Kara, and keep clear of chicken and poultry fat, our EPI dogs dont seem to tolerate chicken, mine included
In fact Kara was intolerant of beef white fish and chicken
My thoughts are to keep a diary log everything
And, can you give us more history, and whether you are giving b12, and any antibiotics uf there are tummy bugs

Re: recommend food
No b12. the vet said she was excellent. After adjusting her meds, this sight told me. The vet said one teaspoon for the whole meal. Her poops are forming, and she is going way less. Yeah. We are going to adjust her food to grain-free (nature Ballance) we had been feeding her Canidae.
