My husky has been on enzymes for two years and is starting to not want to eat her food with them
My husky, Nova, (4 year old female) has been on enzyme powder for about two years now. They have worked so well and she hasn’t had any problems until the last month or so. She doesn’t like to eat as much and we believe it’s because of the water that we have to use with the enzymes making her food wet. She still has a good appetite (and is very interested in our other dog’s normal dry food) but we’ve been having a hard time getting her to finish her meals and eat enough. Does anyone have any suggestions on what we can do for her?

Hi Ali,
I just read back through your posts. Have you tried adding a stinky food topper such as tuna water, parmesan cheese or the likes? Sometimes spreading the incubated food out on a flat plate can help also.

when you say its the water what do you mean, or is it that its too wet
they are an enigma
theonly thing I can think of is mixing the enzyme with something else, which enzymes are you using

Re: My husky has been on enzymes for two years and is starting to not want to eat her food with them
Hi Ali,
I too went back and re-read your posts from mid-March.
1. It sounds like back then she was most likely grabbling with out-of-control SID (small intestinal dysbiosis).... so one possibility i that she is not so keen about eating because her SID is getting out of control again. .... Some dogs feel sick to their stomach and go off their food when SID is out of control, while others act as if nothing is wrong. SO this is one possibility.... watch to see if her poos start getting soft, if her tummy grumbles, if she start farting a lot, or if she start upchucking bile acid like foam/liquid... any of these could very will indicate SID..
You do have her on probiotics. .... yes? if not start... and if starting, start with less then half the dose and work your way up to a full dose over the course of a week or two. If she is on probiotics, let us know which one, as it may not be helping and you might need to change, or talk to the vet about starting a course of Tylan
2. it could be that you are adding too much water to the food.... you only need enough water to moisten the food so that the enzymes have something to stick to.
3. it sounds like (previous posts that you are giving the right amount of enzymes per cup of food... so i don't think this could be the issue....
4. i noticed you mentioned you are giving treats.... low fat & low fiber..... over time, this "might" be triggering SID to get out of control.
5, i am guessing the food is Science diet??? if so, is this the food that she has been on for 2 years ... or have you just started using this food... if just started in the last couple of months, then this might be the underlying issue.
6. And last but not least....if this is not SID acting up again.....(and if you can answer the above questions, we can further help you figure this out)... Anyway... if not SID.... and if she continues to go off her food more and more each day, then take her to the vet and have them run typical blood tests and please tell you vet to specifically look for any kidney issues. When a dog goes off their food, for no obvious reason, if it is not SID, then the next possibility to look at is possible kidney issues.........

Thanks for the suggestions everyone! Turns out she’s just a husky being husky (very dramatic). We gave her the tiniest sprinkle of Parmesan and she’s happy to eat.
