Dear Fellow Dog Lover,

Happy Wednesday.

Today… I've got a quick question for you.

So, if a good friend were to ask you…

What's the most important ingredient to look for when choosing dog food?

What would you tell them? Would you name a specific item?

Like "chicken"? Or "fish"?

Or maybe a particular meat meal.

In this email, I'll share a valuable tip that will help you quickly spot the most important ingredients in ANY dog food.

Without racking your brain to do it.

But first…

One of the biggest mistakes I see dog owners make when shopping for dog food is obsessing over one specific ingredient…

While ignoring its position on the ingredients list.

Which can be a big problem.

That's because…

Thanks to a little-known but crucial FDA labeling rule…

EVERY item on EVERY dog food ingredient list must be listed in order of its before-cooking weight.

Which means…

The closer to the top of the list you find an ingredient…

The more that ingredient MATTERS to the overall content of the recipe.

A fact which can help you judge the importance of ANY ingredient in ANY recipe you ever come across.

For example…

There's a BIG difference between the value of an item found in position number 8 on the list… compared to that same item in position #1.

Which is WHY I like to focus on the first 5 ingredients in every dog food I evaluate.

Not because 5 is some kind of magical number. It really doesn't matter if it's the first 3… or the first 7.

But by focusing on the first 5 items on the list, you'll get a pretty good idea of what the dominant ingredients are in the recipe.

And you'll more easily spot the use of ingredient splitting (a pet food labeling trick I warned you about in a previous email).

So be sure to keep ingredient position in mind the next time you're scanning a list for corn, peas, soy, garlic or anything else.

And you won't be tempted to exaggerate the value of a less important item.

I'm Still Monitoring
Recalls and Warnings

Well, that's it for today. I'll be back next week with another tip to help you feed your dog better... and safer.

Until then, I'll continue to monitor the industry for recalls and FDA warnings.

And I'll shoot you a quick email if anything urgent comes up.

Keep learning. Long live dogs.
