Fingers crossed for Oliver

Post by Olivers Mom » 22 Apr 2022, 14:40

Hello everyone in our EPI world,

Oliver is almost finished his second 45 day tylosin regimen. Will start a very slow withdrawal per Olesia’s suggestion. The slow withdrawal after the 45 days was suggested because Oliver needed a second round of tylosin. Please keep your fingers crossed that this will work.

Right now, stools are perfect. No more vomiting. Actually opens his mouth so I can give him the tylosin.

He has so much energy. He sleeps well. No tummy rumbling. Playing with his brothers. He’s no longer hiding in his bathroom.

Please keep Oliver in your thoughts. He’s such a good boy. So hard to see our babies sick.

Thank you to everyone for your support. This has not been easy. But hey, we have the best fur babies in the world!!

Definitely thinking of you and Oliver. My Tucker gets super gassy if I don't give him 1/16 teasoon Tylan each morning. Been doing this for months. Additionally, he gets Proviable in the a.m. and two slippery elm capsules at night.

Every dog is different, and once we've got the basics down, each one of us has had to ask more questions & do our own tweaking until it's right.

And then it might change again. Dogs with EPI, they teach you to keep on trying!

Hang in there----Pam
Tucker was a shepherd/lab mix--- TLI 1.3, Folate 9.7, Cobalamin 666, Lipase 38. Took Diane's Enzymes 4 teaspoons/day, Wonderlabs B12 one capsule per day, and Tylan 1/16 teaspoon/ morning (to hold SID at bay). Taste of the Wild High Prairie, 1 1/2 cups/day, with a total of 4 cups of Fresh Pet. Stopped eating everything in sight, and went from 60 to 85 pounds! Tucker was my boyfriend, and my husband was OK with that. Tucker succumbed to hemangiosarcoma, but we cherished every day we had with that wonderful, beautiful boy. I will always, always miss my sweet big boy.

Got fingers crossed. Some pups need a low maintenance dose for life and do well.

We definitely have our fingers crossed for Oliver. That was quite a great update. Glad to hear he is doing so well. We could never get below 1/4 teaspoon of tylan with Kolby. He was on it for life. But many dogs are able to do without it. Hope Oliver is one of them. Let us know.

Paws and fingers crossed for Oliver.... Gosh i so hope that the "slow" withdrawal from Tylan works.... but like mentioned here..... some dogs jsut have to be on a tiny maintenance dose for life.... but we sure do try EVERYTHING we can think of to see if we can avoid this, but if not, it really is not that bad to be on a pinch of Tylan for life.

Keep us posted!
Olesia, was owned by Izzy, a 35lb Spanish Water Dog (SWD), Diagnosed at 1.5 years old - TLI results 1.. Izzy passed away on February 13, 2020 at 15 years old. She lived with EPI for 13+1/2 years. It was because of Izzy that Epi4Dogs was started... she was the inspiration. May her legacy of helping others with EPI continue for as long as needed.........

Thank you to everyone and your amazing support. Starting the slow withdrawal now.

I did try proviable in the early days but it did not agree with him. Caused diarrhea despite me slowly introducing it. However, the first few months after diagnosis, I was a wreck. I understand that I MUST only try one thing at a time with this guy.

Once the tylosin is completed, I will reassess everything again. (Just like we all have done). I do have proviable and slippery elm on hand.

I will keep everyone posted. Thank you from the bottom of my heart ❤️ for all the support and suggestions.
