Re: New Diagnosis
Tucker had to live through two meals a day, and we luckily got there, anyway, from 60 to 80 pounds. With five rescues under my roof, I sometimes just have to make do. But yes, like Olesia said, and like I believe I mentioned, try to feed three meals a day while you are putting on the weight. If I fed a bedtime meal, I'd be awakened for a midnight poo every night!--- Pam
Tucker was a shepherd/lab mix--- TLI 1.3, Folate 9.7, Cobalamin 666, Lipase 38. Took Diane's Enzymes 4 teaspoons/day, Wonderlabs B12 one capsule per day, and Tylan 1/16 teaspoon/ morning (to hold SID at bay). Taste of the Wild High Prairie, 1 1/2 cups/day, with a total of 4 cups of Fresh Pet. Stopped eating everything in sight, and went from 60 to 85 pounds! Tucker was my boyfriend, and my husband was OK with that. Tucker succumbed to hemangiosarcoma, but we cherished every day we had with that wonderful, beautiful boy. I will always, always miss my sweet big boy.

Re: New Diagnosis
Happy to report Kylie has gained 3 pounds in less than a week! Still not great poos but getting a little bit better it mostly seems.

Re: New Diagnosis
Kylie's been doing well and has gained nearly 10 lbs since her diagnosis. In addition to enzymes (from enzyme Diane) 1 tsp/cup of food she has been getting slippery elm twice a day and b12 pills with dinner (both from wonderlabs). Recently within the last couple days she is occasionally hesitant to eat. Usually she eventually can be coaxed to eat but tonight she has no I terest in eating her dinner. She'll come into the kitchen and do whatever I ask her her to do but as soon as I tell her to eat she turns around and leaves.
She still has some flatulence occasionally that doesn't smell but has been having good poops.
We originally started with 4 meals a day at 1.5 cups. We've more recently gone to 3 meals at 1.75 cups. Maybe we just need to cut her food back further as she has gained weight? Or cut back enzymes? We haven't noticed any mouth sores or anything of that sort. This is the first meal she's skipped completely no matter how much we've told her to eat.

Re: New Diagnosis
What a happy report!
Two things come to mind---1) the gas could be related to SID, which may have developed in spite of the slippery elm. Maybe start her on Proviable, but open the capsule & give half the recommended dose, working up to the full capsule over a week. If the gas doesn't subside, you may need a complete course of TYLAN. This is the only antibiotic recommended for EPI pups with SID. 2), place something extra yummy, like shredded cheese or tuna, on top of her meal to entice her & get her hunger juices flowing.
If she has gained enough weight, you could try feeding two meals a day. Maybe she's just not as hungry, now that she is getting her health back. Whatever you choose to do, make only one change at a time.
Great job! --- Pam

Re: New Diagnosis
Congratulations on the weight gain! Kylie is a stunner. She may have reached a plateau as far as eating the extra food. But keep an eye on it. One thing that might help you is keeping a log/journal each day. Record everything she eats, the amounts and the resulting poos as well as her behavior around the food and eating process. Sometimes when you write everything down, you can see patterns you didn't notice before. Our Kolby never liked the enzymes. He gained all his weight back and maintained it, but he didn't like the enzymes.
We eventually supplemented with some of the canned version of his food along with his kibble which he liked very much. You are doing a great job.
